Fancy Nancy Explains Earth Day

Earlier this week, Earth Day occurred. When my daughter came home from school, she was very excited to tell me all of the things she learned about Earth Day and why this day was so very important to everyone living on Earth.

After letting her tell me all about her day including all the garbage she and her classmates collected on their playground, I reminded her that Earth Day is just a reminder about what we should every day to save our Earth. This conversation reminded me of one of her favorite early reader books - Fancy Nancy: Every Day is Earth Day.

Fancy Nancy Learns about Earth Day

In this book, Fancy Nancy is excited to know about Earth Day. After coming home from school, the rambunctious, red-haired little girl is anxious to share what she learned with her entire family. She begins to make it her mission to help her family be more environmentally-friendly.

However, Fancy Nancy is not yet old enough to completely understand the difference between responsible energy use and wasteful powerful consumption. As a result, the ever fanciful Nancy creates more problems than solutions in her home.

Fancy Nancy Learns the Difference in Energy Use

After Nancy causes some problems at home with her mission to save energy, her parents have to teach her to prioritize. Nancy's parents set her down to explain that every day should be Earth Day, but that it isn't possible to save the Earth morning, noon, and night by shutting down all the energy and resource use in their home. Instead, Nancy's parents give Nancy advice on how she can help protect the Earth without forcing the family to live off the grid.

Why I Love Fancy Nancy: Every Day is Earth Day

I love the Fancy Nancy series. Each of these books features a curly, red-haired little girl with a huge personality. Nancy is not satisfied with being ordinary. In fact, she wakes up every morning thinking of ways to be extraordinary. One of the ways she does this is by using her advanced vocabulary and making her presence known everywhere she goes with her buoyant outfits and bigger than life ideas.

In this book, Nancy takes her enthusiasm for Earth Day to the next level. Unfortunately, her good-hearted intentions create minor mishaps that require her parent's intervention to make right. All in all, Nancy learns a valuable lesson about what she can do to help protect the Earth. These lessons are perfect for children of all ages and will get little readers excited about what they can do in their lives to help protect our planet.
